The newest awesomest fitness invention on the market is the Peloton Bike designed by an NYC start-up. The ingenuity of the inventors lies in the marriage of fitness and virtual communication. The stationary bike not only provides a smooth ride, but an opportunity to compete and video chat with friends! This brand new invention is just hitting the markets now; you can pre-order for a February arrival.

The Bike Design

The Peloton bike has a near silent belt-drive system and a magnetic resistance flywheel, making for a smooth and quiet ride. Its exterior is made from a carbon steel, monocoque construction that provides strength and stability. The Peloton bike also gives you micro-adjustable seat and handle bar posts. There are no peg holes to line up; instead a high-tension system locks in place.

The Virtual Console

Peloton has a 21.5 inch Full HD, multi-touch console that connects to your home WiFi. The console provides live and on demand studio cycling video classes from the best cycling instructors—24/7. The LED panel is also totally sweat resistant (genius!) to withstand the rigors of a high-intensity workout. The panel’s speed and efficiency is due to a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor from Texas Instruments. A front facing camera and microphone allows you to interact (trash talk?) with friends and motivate one another while you ride.

If these services aren’t enough, Peloton also has Bluetooth and ANT+ radio. You can use therefore connect heart rate monitors and wireless headphones or speakers. And 802.11 b/g/n WiFi (whatever that means) give you top connection speeds.

The video feature  provides quick access to fantastic classes broadcast to you live or on demand. The software lets you choose your favorite instructor, class type, or find a ride that’s popular with your friends. Live classes are broadcast from Peloton’s studio in NYC on a regular basis each day and new on demand classes are always added to the on demand library so you can get a workout anytime.

The great thing about the program is you can track workout statistics. These include calories burned (kcal), cadence (RPMs), power output (Watts), and more. You can also opt to share with friends and followers or keep your progress private.

  1. Start by cycling for 10 to 15 minutes a day and work it up to 30 minutes. Raise the rate at which you cycle, without feeling the strain. Prefer to jog? Do it! Just make sure you have a good pair of running shoes with proper support for your feet.
